On Tuesday, September 25th, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced that Lake Superior College has become an official member.
This is on the heels of LSC announcing it will debut both men’s and women’s intercollegiate soccer teams beginning fall 2015.
“Joining the NJCAA means we’re one step closer to officially having athletics at LSC,” said Dr. Mark Magnuson, LSC’s vice president of Academic Affairs and interim athletic director. “It’s exciting, and we look forward to seeing LSC’s men’s and women’s soccer teams taking the field next fall.”
Now that they’re officially part of the NJCAA, the next step is joining the Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC). Fellow MCAC schools with intercollegiate soccer include Century College (White Bear Lake), Riverland Community College (Austin), Anoka-Ramsey Community College, and Rochester Community and Technical College.
Tentatively, tryouts and training for both teams would begin August 2015, just prior to their corresponding fall sports schedules. Each team would field approximately 23 players. The home field for both teams will be located off-campus, with exact locations currently being decided.
